Fellow amateur radio operators heading to the AAW Symposium (...or not)!

Although I'll have 2 meters and 440 in the mobile for local contacts, I will also be running 10, 15, and 20 meter HF (100 watts) and would like to chat with others heading to the symposium, or other 'landlocked' turners who can't make it to Richmond this year.....all are invited to call in and talk turning! Lets hope the conditions are good for cross-country propagation.

I will be listening from the mobile on the hour and half hour at 14.275 MHz (plus or minus QRM) all day tomorrow (Wednesday, 18 June) and most of Thursday (19 June) on my way to Richmond from Iowa.

Those 'radio-active' turners can call "CQ AAW" or "CQ Woodturners" to strike up a QSO. Give me a call [ WA0RW mobile ] and see who and where we can work!

Let's see if we can meet on the air before we meet in Richmond!

Rob Wallace, WA0RW (mobile)

I know you're on the road but... I'll see if I hear you on 20M. Personally I haven't had a rig in any auto in maybe 10 years.

Enjoy it's a blast.

I listened both days but as you know propogration hasen't been too good lately, what we need is sun spots. I hope some day to be able to attend such an event as you are headed to. I have attened Dayton before and seems from what I hear this is the Dayton of woodturning. I shall listen on Sunday and Monday, perhaps you will be on your way home and we can have a word with you then. Not much of an antenna system here just a simple 20 meter dipole my beams are down and in the garage (TH6DXX and Log Periodic) waiting for better conditions. Have fun and enjoy the event.

PS I often wonder how many woodturners are Hams.

THANKS de WA0RW!!

Thanks Guys..... On this past Wednesday and Thursday I put out many calls on the hour and half hour throughout my trip to the Symposium.... I only QSO'ed with one turner from Arizona who could not attend the Symposium. Despite TERRIBLE band conditions, I did manage about 20-25 contacts - many of those I spoke with found woodturning very interesting (when it was explained to them what it is), and were astonished to learn that there would be 2,000+ people attending a national meeting in on this topic! I did manage to work two DX stations (Nicaragua and England) from the mobile, even with high noise levels and very poor propagation. I found it amusing that the guy from England knew exactly what woodturning was, and that his father-in-law was "a bodger".

I'll be returning to Iowa on Sunday and Monday (June 22nd and 23rd), and will follow the same calling schedule on 14.275 MHz plus or minus QRM. My truck might be going a bit slower due to the load of turning blanks I hope to buy tomorrow!

Best wishes from Richmond!

Rob, WA0RW😀😀😀
