I need some advice on where to go from here. I've made 10-12 bowls so far. I am at the point where I'd like to refine what I'm doing before the bad habits really set in.
Does anyone have any suggestions on which videos would be good? I am interested in developing technique more than I am in ideas on how to make a certain type of bowl/project.
Along the same lines, whose course is good to take?
Obviously, I'm more interested in the video option now, but would like to plan to take a course at some point....hopefully not too long from now.
Thanks.

Well, Ed beat me to it. That wqs to be my suggestion. Gotta learn to type faster. His other video aint too shabby either. It is more advanced . Max

You can get it at most Woodcraft or thru CSUSA & Packard. Or you can order direct from Bill on his website at www.wonderfulwood.com

While you're at it, you may also want to consider his second video "Beyond the Basic Bowl".

Well I'll add to the group and recommend Bill G's video as well. I did a bowl turning demo for our club several years ago and they had just purchased a copy of Bill's DVD. I took it home and watched it and everything he said was just about exactly the way I teach it with very few exceptions. Consequently I highly recommend it.
There are a lot of good schools and workshops around the country so it depends on where you live and how far you want to travel. I'm in Tennessee and the close ones around here are www.folkschool.org www.arrowmont.org
www.tntech.edu/craftcenter and http://marcadams.com/
I would also recommend visiting a club if there are any near you. You can learn an awful lot. Search here for a club near you.

Bill Grumbine's "Turned Bowls Made Easy," hands down.

However, don't get this DVD unless you have a good sense of humor, appreciate subtle comments, want to learn to turn from tree to finished bowl and like "real" music. 🙂

I learn something from it every time I watch it and when I turn I can hear Bill telling me how to do it, and WHY.

Buy it directly from Bill and you'll get prompt service and he will get his full share of the proceeds.

Buy it directly from Bill and you'll get prompt service and ...

... autographed.

Bill did demos, bowl gouge clinic for our Club. I also recommend taking his class. His class is very casual, you learn at your own pace and level. To maximize the class time, watching his DVD in advance is recommended. He is a very experienced teacher.

Well, I bought the DVD from Bill's site. Just goes to show, by word of mouth is still an effective form of advertising. Hopefully, I'll get it next week. I have some time off and look forward to making a few bowls.
