I bought a crossbow several years ago patterned on an old design, probably something like a lightweight medieval type. I didn't order bolts (arrows) as the bow came from Finland. The carbon bolts sold for modern crossbows are too light for my setup. Anyone have any experience making bolts or know of any sources? Sounds like a lot of fun turning them, experimenting with different woods. Maybe even make some artsy, non-functional ones.

I'll bet they are rived instead of turned or possibly both. You need grain to run straight through them. I have made a lot of arrows over the years but nothing for the crossbow. I would do a google search. I'll be you can find something.

Couldn't you just take some regular cheap wooden arrows and shorten them?

A hollow spindle, and a chuck would probably make this a very easy thing to do.......?

I've never done it.......so, that's only a "by guess 'n' by golly" !

Thanks for your input on this rather bizarre request. I believe that the accumulated information will get me started. I am not a big information online freak but the "how to " site is real interesting.
