I'm new to the forum. I haven't had much experience participating in online forums. I've been turning since middle school mostly evenings and weekends till I retired almost six years ago. I am presently recuperating from neck surgery so no turning for me for awhile. I enjoy turning bowls and boxes. Blanks with some "defects" are my favorite material. I turn on a Jet 1642 EVS and a very old Delta midi. In the past my physical limitations have kept me from attending any club meetings. The forum will keep me connected to turning while I'm convalescing and get me more involved with other turners. I feel that I have much to learn from participating in the forum.IMG_20170627_154809867.jpg

Hi Bill,
Welcome to the forum. Looking forward to your posts. I live in Lakeland.

You are not too far away from the Sarasota club.
If you can’t make the meetings their host Advantage Lumber streams the demos live on YouTube where they stay for a while. If you go to you tube and search for “Advantage lumber turning” about 10 demo videos will pop up in the first page and a half along with some other stuff. You can enjoy and learn from the Sarasota clubs programs using the YouTube videos.

The Florida woodturning Symposium is a terrific weekend if you can make it up to Eustice Feb 8-10

Hope your recovery goes smoothly

Bill,

Consider ornamental turning : you can sit whilst the rose engine does the work.

Kind regards,
Rich

What does the pair of glasses on my first post signify?

It sounds like something that must be unique to the device that you are using. I don't see it on Windows or iOS. I suspect that it indicates you can see the full size image if you tap on it. The image in your first post is very large.
