I have an old atlas Model 7122 wood lathe. Works great and there is virtually no play in the headstock. Problem is that the belt is getting really worn and needs replacement. Does anyone have instructions on how to go about this task? The shaft appears to be pressed on to the bearings, and the bearings are pressed into the housing. I've tried to gently drive the shaft out, but no luck. I fear that in trying to replace the belt I will ruin the sound performance of this old gem. Suggestions? 😕

You might try a Power Twist Link Belt from Rockler, Woodcraft, etc. They're about $6-7 a foot, but can always be easily repaired by replacing a bad link. Do a search on the net for some reviews. I put one on my Delta lathe. Now I never have to worry about a broken belt Saturday nite at 8PM. Seems to run quieter, although the lathe is noisy to begin with.
