Hi there Everyone,
The question here is: What do you put on an "Artist Resume"?

And: What do you put in an "Artist Statement"?

I need one of each for an upcoming show and not sure of what I am supposed to put in them.

Thanks for the help.
Hugh

Hugh,

An artist’s resume would normally include contact info, education, shows you’ve participated in, galleries and museums your work is in, noteworthy collectors who own your work, and other personal accomplishments in the field.

An artist’s statement might include information on what inspires you, and what sets your work apart from others – it’s basically a short ad on yourself, aimed at convincing someone to buy your stuff.

The resume can contain education pertaining to turning and art (like a bachelor of arts), turners you have studied with or taken workshops with, list of awards you may have won, other shows you have participated in, and meaningful places where your work is displayed.

The artists statement can be a simple bio, and/or a description of the kind of work you like to do. Mine includes a short paragraph on how I got started in turning and a little about the kind of work I like to do. I also use a lot of discarded wood so I mention that as well.

You might try www.delmano.com Click on different artists and read their biographies and you will get some ideas.

Good Luck

Be sure to write it in the third person! 😉
