I'm extremely grateful to the AAW for this amazing, life changing opportunity: I'm Tennesse bound to Arrowmont !! I'm one of the 28 lucky Scholarship winners for 2017!!!!!! Nervous and humble... Now, how do I get there? lol I'll be coming from Hawaii... Nashville? Will be my first time seeing the Smoky Mountains!
2017 is starting to be a great year for me!! I'm going to make it EPIC. Once again, a big Mahalo to the AAW and specially to the selecting committee.

Congratulations, it is a wonderful place. - A terrific benefit.
The park is a short drive.
One distinguishing aspect of Arrowmont is the exposure to other classes through evening slideshows, scheduled demonstrations and open invitations for visits.

For anyone considering attending The Florida Sympsoium there are a few opening left.
Each year, FWS gives out scholarships and grants to attend Arrowmont, JC Campbell and at least one other craft show as well as a day in the shop with several well known Florida turner.
This has had a profound effect on building the kill level of Florida Woodturner's.

Congratulationls. You will have a ball. I demoed for the Tennessee club Tuesday. They also have a symposium coming up I think the same weekend as the Florida one. They announced that 20% of the proceeds from the symposium will go to Arrowmont to help rebuild. Jeff said that the registrations were going extremely well and might be close to the largest one we've had.

Congratulations!!

It's a beautiful state, so you may want to try to find some time to just enjoy that too. Even coming from Hawaii, you will find the topography to be inspiring.

Nashville is about 3 1/2 hours from Gatlinburg (Arrowmont). You could fly into Knoxville and catch to Gatlinburg from there (about 30 minutes away) If you decide to fly into Nashville let me know.

In addition to what Jeff said, Gatlinburg's city limits border the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. If time permits, take a one day tour of Cades Cove and see how pioneers lived for decades. There are many old cabins, old mill, churches and cemeteries plus lots of wildlife- bears (early or late in the day), turkey, deer. Keep in mind there might be a problem with snow this time of year as some roads are closed during the winter.
FYI: 1-865-436-1200 or www.nps.gov/grsm for contacts.
Aloha!

Thank you! Great and fun info. Not sure when I'm coming, I'm assuming I can choose my course. If they choose for me, I hope they don't send me winter time, I'm from Hawaii!
