I was wondering if anyone was going to attend the "Seggie Fest" Symposium at the Mark Adams School of Woodworking this coming weekend? Even though I really wish I could be at the First Segmented Turning Symposium, and spending the time "Exploring the Possibilities" with Tibbets, Theobald, and Smith, alas, it's not in the cards this time!

I'm sure there are others like me who really want to be there but can't. If anyone IS going to attend, I, for one, would really appreciate seeing photos or reports from (or on) the Symposium, and give us your impressions of the presentations, activities, and instruction given.

Thanks in advance to those who can let us in on the fun......!!!

Enjoy yourselves!

Rob, you made me chuckle (seggie fest). I'm sure hoping that this event provides plenty of inpiration, instruction, and fun for all attendees. I'll be busy, but hopefully, not too busy to snap a few photos. If I really get my act together, maybe I can shoot some video and post it on YouTube.

By the way, it's not too late for last minute, on-site registration.

I wanted to be there but it isn't going to happen this time. I do hope you guys will make this an annual event. I'd love to make it one time

I Have To Work

I was DETERMINED to go to this, tried three times to turn down the work, but money is getting harder to come by...
SOOooooo, when the second one gets on the calander, I'll write it down in BLOOD and send my money (I figure that if I have "skin in the game," I'll make the event.
I look forward to hearing about it, and assume that missing it will be a BIG miss

I attended and would agree that it was a weekend well spent. Days were full, for sure, running from about 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

The presentations I took in were informative, and took a little different track than I've seen in other events in that there seemed to be a little more back and forth dialogue between presenters and those of us gathered. There was some "how to" in there, but one of the more valuable take aways for me was to use them as a starting point rather than an end point.

The instant gallery was probably typical of what I expected from a segmented symposium. Lots of eye candy. But the diversity, the display of an amazing array of skills so well executed, and the inspiration it fired up caused me to make several trips to see it. Well, the ice cream machine was close by and that may have been a mitigating factor as well, I suppose.

I can't say I came home with a ton of handouts for things to do in the shop, a boat load of wood, or a dozen or more receipts for new tools and gadgets. I sure enjoyed hanging out with, and learning from, a bunch of folk who enjoy the same things I do, though.
