I would like to change out the motor on my Nova 3000 lathe to a variable speed. I have done this in the past to my Grizzly lathe with a DC motor. Worked very well but lost a lot of low speed torque. This time I would like to use a 3phase motor with a single phase 220V converter/controller. I am looking at this place;
http://www.dealerselectric.com/
The current motors tag does not list mounting frame and I can’t measure the shaft size without removing the pulley. So I am wondering if anyone here has made this conversion and would know what the frame mounting I need is and the shaft size. Obviously I want the new motor to bolt right in. If you have made this modification, what is your opinion on it and where should I watch for trouble?
Thanks.
