Any interest in Ornamental Lathe shop open house?

Now that Dewey Garrett has moved to Prescott, AZ we have called our town the "world-wide center of 21st century ornamental turning". (We both use electronics in our equipment for those of you who don't know).

We had breakfast together this morning and talked about having a shop open house day when people could come and see how we do our ornamental turning work. Perhaps we could do the morning at Dewey's shop and afternoon at my shop.

Any interest? We were thinking of sometime in mid to late April. For anyone in California, there are direct flights between LA and Prescott (also Denver and Prescott). Or we're only about 2 hours drive from Phoenix.

We aren't selling anything -- just providing an opportunity for people who want to learn more about ornamental lathes that we've made for ourselves using very state-of-the-art approaches.

Let me know by private email if you are interested.

An open house with you two guys would be a great day, but just can't spend the funds to fly from Central IL. I run a big 5 axis CNC for my day job, so am very interested in the machinery and methodology. I've also modified a Jet mini into a rose engine lathe with my own design. So yeah, I've got the background, and would love to be there!🙁

Ornamental Lathe open house

That sounds a great idea. I have been doing ornamental turning for 20 years now. There is an active group here. When are you going to bring it to Australia?

Don't forget about Special Interest Night at the Symposium

For those planning on attending the AAW Symposium in Tampa, there usually is a group dedicated to Ornamental Turning (Bill is a "mover and shaker" in that group!) that gets together on Special Interest Night, which is an evening/after dinner meeting time on Friday evening during the symposium. I have seen several of these OT SIN meetings PACKED to standing room only, so obviously there is interest in Ornamental Turning.

Yet another reason to join us in Tampa!

Have you considered a Video?

I'd really enjoy attended an Open House with you guys. A trip from Georgia to Arizona, however, is more that I could justify and a traveing tour is more than you can justify. Have you considered making a Video? Like Rob said, there is an interest out here.

Rob --

The good news is that the AAW symposium will be in Phoenix, AZ next year. That's close enough to allow me to take the equipment so that people can see something more than just a slide show.

I'm sure we'll have some space for the OT. Bonnie mentioned that already.

I have been involved in an open studio weekend with art groups.
Potter, Turner, painters, sculpted, glass etc.

If you haven't already done so, you might extend an invitation to the local art community.
I'm sure you have a bunch of artists groups in the Phoenix area.
A slightly different audience but likely to be enthusiastic.
