Any ideas!

I'm going to venture a guess here. O don't think it has a design purpose at all. I think it's one of those things that is done, because it can be done. Part of me hopes that I'm wrong, but that's my guess.

Okay, I have a little more information from the lady who is trying to identify the box. It's approx 3 inches across x 2 inches deep and 3/4 inch to the level of the 'dishes' in the bottom. The three 'dishes' are made of a much lighter wood than the box and presumably glued to the bottom.

I guess it was made for a specific purpose but much too small for hens eggs or 'glass eyes' 😉. Ah well, keep guessing, I'm sure someone, somewhere knows!!

I think there are a couple of "Can you guess what this is" channels on You Tube where they find weird things that are mostly forgotten tools and "things". Maybe you could ask them.
