My brother in law asked me to take a cedar tree that got storm damage that he and his mother planted when he was just a wee tike. When I got it home after hauling it for over 200 miles, the first time I cut into it, I found all kinds of tunnels and large black carpenter ants. There were many thousands of them, and of course, that pretty much ruined any plans for making bowls etc from that wood. The ants had made pretty much a total mess of that whole tree trunk! It sits on my firewood pile now, and when I use the wood stove I put a piece in with the oak from time to time.
