Betty, in an earlier thread asked me about Anderson Ranch and the altitude: circa 8000'. Yes it did bother me the first day, they recommended lots of liquids. And Corona was freely available in the shop fridge if you were on good terms with the very helpful shop assistants. I took my medicine and recovered quickly.

More seriously, I strongly recommend their turning, and all other programs.

HERE is a slide show of my train trip from my home in the California Sierra foothills to Snowmass, CO (near Aspen) and my wonderful class with Al Stirt.

The AAW offers members a 10% discount on the programs. Classes are shown at the Anderson Ranch Web site: http://www.andersonranch.org/

This was an experience of a lifetime. I will be going back.

Jerry, thank you for posting and sharing your slides. The Ranch must be a great place to share and learn.

I guess I wasn't on as good terms with the "helpful shop assistants" as I thought I was . . . I like Corona. Well, maybe the shop assistants were a different group than when I was there last, two years ago. Must be the case. Couldn't be otherwise . . . 😕

The altitude bothered me the first day, but I did as you said (minus the Corona) and recovered just fine. Yes, the program there is quite good and the setting can't be beat.

Jerhal,
Was that a one week class with Al Stirt?

I loved your slide show. Looks like a very fun and productive trip. I have been to Arrowmont but never to Anderson Ranch. I may have to work on that after looking at your slides.

Hugh - Here is a catalog of classes

One week class for Al, but we put in long days. Al was there typically from 7:30 to well into the evening. The other class in the slide show was on wood sculptural form building.

Here is a pdf of the current catalog and the all the wood turning classes: http://www.andersonranch.org/pdfs/2010ARAC_catalog.pdf

Sculpture

Jerry-In regard to the sculpture form building slide show is there a way that I can access it? I am also searching the catalog and have not run across it yet.

The course description for:
June 21 - 25
Creating Volume &
Form in Wood
Andy Buck
is on the page numbered 14 in the catalog, or page 16 of the pdf file HERE

Hope that is what you are asking. The last part of the slide show focused on that class to some degree. Jerry

Thanks for the info. That catalog is a work of art in itself.

Wayne,

Your comment made me look. I did not realize Anderson Ranch covered such a wide range of disciplines.

Jerry,

Thanks for providing the link to your slide show of your inspiring visit.
