Before you read too much into the title of this thread (e.g. “What turns in Portland, stays in Portland†? ? ), please recall that the “SIN†I’m talking about is the Special Interest Night at the forthcoming AAW Symposium next week. For those that will be attending the Symposium, this is an opportunity to get together informally with other turners sharing similar interests.
There are seven different activities taking place on Friday, June 29th, between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm at the Oregon Convention Center in some of the same rooms used for the demonstrations during the day. Fortunately, the rooms are fairly close to one another, so it may be possible to attend more than one session. For those that would like to see where these rooms are in advance of checking-in at the Symposium, see page 3 of the .pdf file available at:
http://www.oregoncc.org/B&P/brochures/OCCSpecsbrochure.pdf
The AAW demonstration sessions, and the SIN sessions, will all be in adjacent rooms on Level 1 of the Oregon Convention Center.
The Special Interest group meetings are as follows:
Collectors of Wood Art - Room A106
Meet and Greet
Hollowing Tools – Room B110
Organizers: Dick Veitch and David Ellsworth
Youth Turning – Room B113
Organizers: Dave Bowers, Tony Cortese, and Al & Sherry Hockenbery
Ornamental Turners – Room B115
Ornamental Turning Q & A
*Woodturning Online Groups – Room B116
Organizers: Steve Worcester and Rob Wallace
Segmented Turning - Room B117
Organizers: Malcolm Tibbetts, Linda Salter, Curt Theobald
Penturning Q & A - Room C125
Organizer: Rich Kleinhentz
*With respect to the Woodturning Online Group meeting in Room B116, this gathering is set-up to allow participants in the various on-line forums to be able to see one another face-to-face, be able to meet the forum regulars (and lurkers!), and further develop friendships directly - without the Internet in between. The plan is to be able to meet during the 7:30 to 9:00 pm session in the OCC, and then move to a local establishment to continue discussions over some of Portland’s fine brewed beverages. This meeting is open to any and all participants in on-line woodturning forums (e.g. AAW, Woodcentral Turning Forum, Woodturning Online, Woodturners Resource, etc.) and should be a good way to be able to put a face with a name (or username) for future reference in on-line discussions!!
I’m looking forward to meeting many of you in Portland next week!!
Rob Wallace
