CRUD!!!

I accidently nuked the whole thread on "Alcohol Drying - real data needed". Someone had posted a snide comment and I was trying to delete that specific posting.

Sorry folks - it was a "hard" delete and I can't restore the thread. First time I did that since this forum got started. I'll be more careful in the future.

Lol, Jeff, don't feel bad. I added a bottle of STP oil treatment to my truck yesterday morning, and halfway to work I started smelling roasted motor oil. I had forgotten to put the cap back on the oil inlet. Pretty much galvanized everything under the hood, spent my lunch break hosing out the engine.

No problem Jeff. We will just recreate that thread. All we need to do is have everyone re-post, word for word, what was in the original.

Ok, who's gonna start?

I'm just now replying to this thread....I was hiding in the basement all day to avoid the noose 🙂

At least with woodturning there is something usually left to repair when you make a mistake. Redfish - sorry to hear about your oil accident - sounds like a bigger mess than I made! Dietrich - your refund is in the mail 🙂

Why?

I just returned from an extended long weekend and see that this thread has died. It was my intent that the AAW or other body with some Scientific Credibility start a well-researched project to establish the validity of the use of alcohol on drying wood blanks. To date all that's been presented are Dave Smith's results (he has done a good job - but not a thorough detailed study). To my mind it requires some serious study and peer reviewed scientific evidence is required - not empircal and heresay - just because several others have also found the method to work over a short time doesn't make it. We don't know how the pieces will behave 6, 12, 18 months or longer, or what other unknown changes in the wood properties occur, considering the different climates in this part of the world.

Lets keep this fourm on track.

This Is my take on the subject.
I have been using this method since Dave has so graciously spent his time and letting us woodturners in on the method of DNA.
I have had great success using this method!
Some would rather use other methods, anchorseal, paper bags and shavings, Boiling, microwave, to name a few. To each His/Her own! All that matters is the end result, The finished Product!
And as The old saying goes "Dont Knock It Till you Try It"
Jim
