Hello yall I was not sure where to post this under but I am in the market for an air filtration system and I wanted some opinions on what you all have used. My first choice is this JDS unit http://jdstools.com/air-tech-hp-air-cleaner.aspx and I can't get any info about this machine. My next choice is Jet 1000b or a powermatic 1200.

My shop is in the basement and room size is 25x 30 with 7' 1/2 ceiling. I do use dust collection but I need something for the dust. Thanks for your help.

I think any of those would do the job. These are not terribly complicated. I have a Jet and it's been fine. Got it when a friend realized it was too big for his basement shop (less than half the size of yours).

I am by no means an expert but I can tell you that you may want to find something that will get particles smaller than 1 micron. The really dangerous stuff, it seems is particulate smaller than that rating.

I have a small shop - 10 x 25 - and am using a shop fox hanging unit along with a couple of fine air filters that are rated down to .3 microns. But they're too small I think for your shop. And even with these, and dust collection I still have fine dust all over the shop.

Perhaps you can upgrade the filter to a more efficient one? This may knock down the CFM a bit but that unit moves a pretty good bit of air.

These machines are primarily for long term air cleaning to help reduce fine suspended dust from settling on surfaces in the shop. They do not really do much to meet the immediate need for respiratory protection when it comes to the air quality while turning. You will still need something for respiratory protection.

I had a Jet that worked OK but I still had very fine dust everywhere, Sold it and bought a Laguna 1400 cfm and I get very, very little dust if any. My shop is in my basement and SWMBO says dust is gone upstairs. I can feel the air movement with this new unit.

Yes, that's true. I also use a trend air shield when turning and would urge anyone to invest in their lungs by getting something like it.

As to the fine particles in the air, I've added a fan to move air around the shop. After I'm finished fir the day I leave it and all the filters running and still there's dust, but it's better than previously.

I'm thinking that since Christopher's shop is in his basement there is the rest of the house to consider, as the fine stuff can migrate everywhere doing you think?

Harry, which model do you have? I'd like to look into it for a future possibility.

I have the older JDS model of what you linked to. Have had it for 10 years or so. My turnery is in my basement and is quite small compared with the other comments in this thread; it’s about 9’x12’ and my JDS is about midpoint on a long wall with my Jet canister DC in the corner at the intake side of the JDS. The JDS is way oversized but I don’t see a downside to that.

I usually have the DC on collecting as much sanding dust at the source as possible and the JDS running at the same time. I have the JDS set to turn off an hour after I leave the shop. While I don’t have experience with the other makers out there, if needed, I wouldn’t hesitate to replace my current JDS with another.

PS - what info are you looking for that you can’t locate?
