For me there nothing better than turning this sort of blank, every day all day long, and I guess half of it is the challenge. Ok, I realise it's not for every one. But would you have put this one in the firewood box? Sometimes I think we pass an opportunity by without consideration of what could be. This was the ugliest piece on the shelf, and it sat there drying out for a couple of years. I turned the outside, held it by the foot with the steady on the rim and turned the inside at around 500rpm, at a guess about 50% is missing. The Mistletoe as we call it, is a parasite that grows on the eucalyptus trees, in this the connection was a small branch about 50mm in dia that ran through just above the rim or opening, it couldn't be saved.
I have posted this before, but without the full wrap around shots. Stands about 27cm tall with a dia of 16cm, oiled and sanded very carefully.
