Hello,

I expected to see a little more traffic regarding the upcoming get together in New Mexico, so hopefully this will stimulate a little. This is my first national symposium. I am looking for advice on demostrations. I know it is highly subjective, but any presenters/rotations that I should try extra hard to see? Either in terms of information presented, or entertainment value?

Any other advice?

Thanks,
Myron

I will be in the vendors area, Turningwood.com, some table I don't know the number of. Come by and I can give you free schooling. We can talk about your interests and what may best suit your likings.

But, look at what topics you are interested in and check those off first. Look at what topics you will be interested in the future and check those second (use multiple highlighters). If any of the above are a large draw turner, prepare to leave the previous session a little early and wait for the one in that room to evacuate and drop your stuff on a chair in the front. Look at where that chair faces and see if it will allow you to see the tool when they are turning and the monitor for the close ups. If you want to take photos or videos, ask the demonstrator if it's ok. Don't use a flash as it is disruptive and momentarily blinds the demonstrator.

For lunch, stalk the turner you want to talk to, get your food and sit at their table. Out of respect, as if that seat is saved. They (mostly) don't bite and they are all wonderful people that share the same passion you do.

take a deep breath, you are not going to be able to see and absord everything, accept it, just try to enjoy yourself, when there is a large time period between rotations visit instant gallery, it will be really good, in fact you may want to skip a rotation just to visit the instant gallery when there are fewer viewers and you have more time

enjoy, sob 🙁 sob 🙁

Start with the ones you know you don't want to miss, then fill in the rest. Take Steve up on his offer. I would be glad to do the same if you stop by my booth in the trade show. Take off a rotation or two and go to the instant gallery and trade show when they are not so busy. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation and ask questions of people.

I enjoy the enthusiasm of first timers, don't be bashful.😀

Hi Myron,

The first one is the most intense. You want to see everything but there is just not enough time. My first one was in Akron. The time just flew by. My head was spinning on the drive back home. It was great!! I had so many new ideas that I kept a note pad on the passenger seat to jot down ideas as I drove.

My advise is to just go and have fun. Try to see what you can and don't fret about what you miss. Because you cannot see it all. 🙂

But if someone asks you to help load a motorcycle in the back of a truck, at least get him to buy you a cold drink afterwords. 🙂

Best wishes,

Dave
