I have read a number of postings about the wonders of Abralon. Did a search and found out little. Can someone help me with some direction as to where to read about and buy Abralon.
thanks,
David Galloway

What they say

this is from their site:
"Abralon sanding pads combine the benefits of abrasive cloth and non-woven products to eliminate cross grain scratches . Constructed with a fabric face, foam center, and a grip backing, abrasive grains are bonded evenly to the fabric face. With the foam backing, it especially well and easily conforms when sanding contoured surfaces, corners and sharp edges. In addition, the foam center also provides for even surface pressure that helps to eliminate finger marks when hand sanding"

i have a set with 360,500,1000,2000 and 4000 grit. Use them wet for faster sanding, i use odourless paint thinner over oil finishes. They are good for smoothing out the finish and final preparation before buffing. they can be washed. In Canada - Woodessence is the only dealer i know of. i think they were around $25 for the set. the back has velcro so you can use it with a ROS.

David;
I got mine from Woodescense in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I got the complete starter kit for $27.50 Cdn funds . He sent it by expedited parcel post. Jeff there is very knowledgeable about all things pertaining to finishing. That is where I get all my WB laquer that I use in my other areas of woodworking.

Abralon is a great product. I have been using it (and selling) off and on for a few years. It is available in 6" and 3" disks. It is sold commercially in 20 disk packs.

Is there one 6" disk of each in a starter pack?

You can get info about Abralon from Mikra at http://www.mirkausa.com/products/brands/abralon.htm unfortunately the website is out of date and may not show all the sizes and grits available.

Steve;
Yes there is one of each grit 6" disc in the starter pack as well as a 6" Surbuf buffing pad which was just recently added to the starter kit. That pad looks like it will be wonderful for final wax buffing. A couple of those buffing pads could possibly be the answer to a poor mans buffing system by using separate ones for polishing compounds and a final one for wax.
I am getting anxious to try mine out.

I was not aware that it is available in 3" pads as well as 6" or that you also sell it.. Rather than a commercial post here , perhaps you could email me with particulars on that.

The starter packs come in the grits I posted above. But to repeat, 360,500,1000,2000,4000.

it is a good product.

As it is often noted: "Those WHO Live IN Glass Houses; well, most know the rest!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes:
