Able to find Glaser Screw Chuck - 1" - 8TPI

I'm a newbie (since November) and my teacher (Peter Lamb) had been trying to find a Glaser Screw Chuck to fit my Delta Midi-lathe. A couple of months ago he contacted Paulo Marin at Glaser Hitec and was able to purchase one from him. Even though it is not listed on the website at this point, we were able to buy one.

After using it for over a month, I can easily understand why Peter was so emphatic that this is a component I must have for my lathe. It appears to be engineered very well and works beautifully on my delta.

There is one very small issue that Peter contacted Paulo about and hopefully will be fixed down the line. The screw chuck includes two knock-out rods which are needed to hold the screw chuck base in place while changing the diameter of the face of the chuck. Unfortunately one of the holes is about 1/32" too small for either of the knock-out rods, but that is easily fixed by reboring the hole, or using a very small piece of extra course sandpaper to core it out a little. Other than that, I have had no problems whatsoever with it.

I am assuming if anyone is interested in getting a 1" 8TPI Glaser Screw Chuck, you could contact Glaser Hitec directly and get it from Paulo.

I realize my use of woodturning vernacular has a long way to go, but I hope I have conveyed how much I like this chuck....Dave

Dave I'm glad you were able to get one.
I looked at hitech's site and it's sure pretty and there is certainly a lot of influential names dropped there, and plenty of photos of luminaries doing this or that or standing with Paulo looking at the camera.
But so far as I was able to see they're not open for business. Most of the site navigation links don't work and there are no prices. None of the product links work either
The glaser screw chucks are in a class by themselves, you're right about that, but they sure do make it tough to do business with them.
Been going on for a while now I think.

Pity, really.

Hi Dave...

Thanks for responding. When Peter and I went out to their website, we saw it was not really operational. However, Peter contacted Mr. Glaser to find out how to contact Mr. Marin and he sent Peter the email address. Peter emailed Paulo, and Paulo said he had Glaser screw chucks available, but he had not done anything to update the website. I can promise you I got one, and it works great!

I guess if you are interested in contacting him, please PM me (I do not want to post his email address publicly) and I will forward the email address to you.

Dave

I have always had a gripe with a finished product when you have to say everything is great except...

You should not have to modify the chuck to get the tommy bars to fit.

It is a great design, I have had one for more than 10 years, but evidently there is something wrong in the manufacturing process.

Hi Steve....

Peter contacted Paulo and let him know that the one hole was slightly too small and that I was able to core it out using coarse sandpaper (or I could have used a drillbit if I wanted).

I agree that a product that costs as much as it did should be defect-free, but given the choice of not having a screw chuck that works as well as it has for me this time (even with a slightly small hole) versus not having one at all, I'll gladly deal with expanding the hole on my own.

Glaser Screw Chucks

gentleman...
I truly appreciate the support and patience.
The issue with the hole being smaller has been corrected and obviously the input we receive is valuable to our production process.

We currently have a 6000 sq.ft. facility located in Camarillo, California and we have been building inventory for the past 6 months...

Sometimes, something gets lost in production, and in this case, after quality control, we had two units (out of 300) that had a smaller bore... the issue has been corrected.

Our current website, is not completely active yet, since we are dealing with the connectivity of our e-commerce side (merchant setup) and new product line (exciting news I assure you).

Soon, we will be live and active.

I can only thank everybody for all your support and patience. A certain combination of factors have deterred me from moving at a faster pace, but I feel that now, we have a much clearer vision of going forward..
😀

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just wish to talk.
Keep supporting the AAW please...

Recurring deja vu.....

.... since 2006.

Interesting that someone actually got some kind of a Glaser tool, albeit "secretly".

A thread about CET & Glaser Hitec was posted HERE last year on July 22nd...

Several other stories and responses about CET/Glaser Hitec tools as well on Woodcentral by Mr. Marin.....

....similar stories that "it's coming soon", similar requests to "have patience", and similar product unavailability heard again and again since the "blowout" display at the trade show at the Louisville AAW Symposium. It's hard to believe anything when words are not followed-up with actions.

I still love my Glaser 15V and my two AAW commemorative Glaser gouges, but currently consider them a part of woodturning history.

Time to move on?

Glaser Tools >>>>

Rob,
I asked for patience and time because it takes money and time to come back, especially with the economy the way it is. I am happy that you like your Glaser tools, especially the commemorative gouge... I personally worked on every single one of them... what serial number to you have???

But aside, from woodturning I was happy to know that you are a fellow brewer.. I belong to the Maltose Falcons here in California and aside from woodturning, my next passion is brewing good beer.

I would love to talk beer brewing with you... Please call me.. I am about to build the Brutus setup and would love to hear your comments about it and also to learn from you.
It would mean a lot to me to talk beer making... I finally was able to get a Blichman ferminator...

And once again, I am sorry for the delay in tool production...I am working on it...Wish you could come visit to see it...

Let me know how we can talk

Regards
