AAW Symposium - want to help?

Being a demonstrator assistant will enhance your Symposium experience.

Demo Assistants have the best seat in the room. The main responsibility is operating the Video camera. Demo assistants will get a brief familiarization with the camera and special Tee shirt. On occasion demonstrators may ask you do some small task. Most important it is way to contribute a bit of your time and not miss a rotation.

Most of you know that the AAW Symposiums have few paid workers. The Big show is due to the hard work of volunteers. So join in the fun of helping make the Louisville symposium happen.

To volunteer send an email with

Your name, phone number, e-mail address
You can offer to do 2 or 3 sessions. We will honor requests to assist particular demonstrators if possible.

Please send your e-mail to.

demoA@hockenbery.net

Thanks for helping.

Sent in my application with the volunteer box checked quite some time ago, when will we hear? both that the application was received and whom we will be helping?

The first symposium I ever went to, San Antonio, I went to see John Jordan. He didn't have a camera man, so I volunteered out of the audiance to help. It was awesome.

Since then, and having demoed at a few Symposiums myself, the volunteers can make or break the demo. Only a few people get to be in the front row, but the volunteer puts everyone else in the front row.

Jim,
When You register for the symposium there will be two big boards: a demonstration schedule and a matching assitant assignment schedule.

Jame Darnell will have demonstrator assigments on line.
A working vesrions is available now from the louisvilleareawoodturners home page.

http://www.louisvilleareawoodturners.com/rotations.pdf

This currently has only those who requested a particular turner assigned.

We also include volunteers from the registration forms as they are processed.

Happy Turing,

I am really amazed at the number of big name turners who still need assistants. If I had the time to watch Mark Sfirri, Michael Hosaluk, Mike Darlow etc., and from right up front, hiding behind the camera.

Still prime pikins!

One added benefit to volunteering to help setup is that we will have at least one round of Kona coffee (light roast) straight from Hawaii. Dave Somers has acquired 6 pounds of freshly roasted coffee and is sending it early to the symposium.

Dave probably thought he could donate that anonymously but I think it is a great gesture of friendship and camaraderie from Dave who will not be able to make it to the symposium.

Aloha Dave!

I volunteered for 3 demos and I have seen my name on the rotation schedule, and I excited to do it. I was wondering if there is any kind of training session or anything before we jump in there. Do we need to check in somewhere when we register. When do we learn the secret demo-asst. hand shake? 😕

You will be able to ask questions and practice with the equipment. NOTE: iYOU MUST check in before you are scheduled to assist or we have to assume you haven't arrived.

Are all 3 sessions the same?

Al:

I note from your reply above that the wednesday afternoon session is 2 hours long (3-5 pm) and the other two are only 1 hour each. Is something different being done on wednesday afternoon, or are there two back to back sessions (at 3 and 4 pm) on wednesday for the demo assistants? I hope to be there by 3:00 to catch the afternoon session, but my arrival may be contingent on traffic encountered along the way from Iowa..... my hope is to be able to attend the session on wednesday afternoon....

Anybody know if there is parking deck right at the Galt House?? I'd like to cruise right in and get to the training session if possible.

Thanks for any clarification,

Rob Wallace

The Wednesday session will run
4 PM to 5 PM

Our mistake in the times.

Last year there were two back to back session scheduled and nobody came to the second.
So this year there will be 1 session in the second time slot.
