I can't find it now but somebody recently commented about Richmond, VA being the site for the 2008 Symposium. Is this correct? Are the dates or even just the month set yet? I couldn't go this year, nor will I be able to next year, but Richmond sounds very doable built around an eastern vacation.
Anybody know about it?

Jim

Richmond in 08

I believe I was the one who mentioned it being close to me, in Richmond, in 2008. Our turning club has had that official announcement. No dates have been mentioned. We know that the Gault House will stay in Louisville! Phil

Ed Davidson will be posting that information in the next 6 weeks. Phil is correct on both points:
- 2008 will be Richmond, VA
- the Galt House will stay in Louisville 🙂

My wife and I are already planning on attending the 2008 Symposium in Richmond. Portland is not out of the question, but that is a "fair piece" from Illinois! 😉 I am still kicking myself in the rear for not attending this year, but scheduling conflicts with the day job prohibited the journey. ("Twas a shame too, as "Loo-uh-ville" is only about 3 hours south.) After seeing all the wonderful pictures and descriptions of the event, it looks like a priceless opportunity to me. (I won't address the problems with Galt House, as I was not there, but I can sympathize with those that endured it.........been there, done that!) My hats off to the AAW, and all the volunteers that make this happen for the enjoyment and enrichment of the "turning bunch". What an awesome endeavor! Problems aside..........Kudo's to you ALL! :cool2:

Phil,

In that earlier post, I seem to remember you saying you were interested in all the comments on past Symposia so your group could try to make improvements? For that I salute your efforts and would like to make a small suggestion. If possible, add to the AAW registration packet a list of near-by eaterys, their location and price range. This in my opinion would be a big improvement over the current system of stumbling, by dumb luck, onto or into a good restaurant.

Let me put a vote in for 2009.....Honolulu or Hilo or Kona anyone? <grin> Not sure I would bother with Tumon Bay in Guam, or Pago Pago in American Samoa. Not very good conference facilities in either location. Besides, all the demo lathes would rust within hours of arrival!

I am up for Puerto Rico or the US Virgin Islands. They would certainly have woods I haven't collected, but the other vendors would not like having to ship the wood there.
