We had a 30 entries to the contest, a new record!

Nick Cook, our esteemed judge, has provided results of the contest in record time. Nick judged the results yesterday. Thanks to Nick for volunteering to judge the contest. Nick said "It was an impressive assortment of pieces, hard to choose just three."

Congratulations to the winners. Gary, I thought your piece was the best by far. Loved it. Nice to see so many entries and different styles. Definitely a learning opportunity for me.

Congrats to Jeff, the contest plan seems to be catching on. I haven't been hanging out here long enough to know where the idea for the contest came but its seems you are doing the work of the contest.

I am very impressed with all the winning pieces. Based on the entries and the results I expect the 'surface embellishment' rotations at the Symposium to be crowded. The winners should be proud to have been selected by Nick, especially in the face of such competition. Good work to everyone involved and special thanks to Jeff and Nick.

They all were very nice and it would have been difficult for me to decide which ones to pick as the winners given that there were no specific "rules", but it is interesting that the one that Nick picked as the winner is the same one that I would have chosen simply because it immediately caught by eye as being different, yet simple, and the color and grain seemed to fit the design (or, is the other way round) nicely. His other choices were also ones that ranked high on my list. I would have entered except for my complete lack of inspiration.

I have to aggree surface enhancement are "in" Gary took a nice peice and made it an awesome peice with his urchin flutes and carving.


I am glad that there has been a record participation, and hope to see it continue.

Pulling this off the top of the forum. Congrats again to the three winners.

We are now starting the judging process for the Chapter Website contest. There are 19 entries. I'll have the results in about 2 weeks.
