Thanks to selfless and tireless work from John Hill (on the AAW Board) and Binh Pho, the AAW Relief Fund Auction will be started on November 20 on Ebay. Over 30 world class woodturners have donated pieces toward the effort. To read more about it, please check out the AAW Home page

Have you noticed that the "ENLARGE" button doesn't enlarge the image. It just opens another browser window and displays it there.

Bill
The photos in the original window are scaled down on some. An example is the goblets by Malcom and Stuart. The image in the window is 234x360 and enlarged is 325x500. It must have to do with the max image size that was uploaded.

Steve got it. The original images weren't very big. I pulled them from the draft images which were posted in Ebay. The Ebay auction will open on the 20th as stated. There are more complete descriptions on most of the pieces. The photo gallery I posted was intended to serve as a preview.

What do y'all think about that photo gallery software? I might use it for the annual symposium pics and also for another project which we might do on the AAW website.

Yes, this was from a commercial product web gallery wizard

There are a couple of bugs in it. Plus it is not really setup for tweaking by programmers. You can provide your own template (css). The most eggregious bug is that the slideshow does not show the last picture. I almost had it fixed last night then had to hit the sack. I stripped out all their ads from the slideshow on the AAW website, and that has to be done each time the slides are regenerated for a particular set. (Well it doesn't HAVE to be done).

There are 6-10 templates provided with the package. Overall it provides a nice framework for creating small to medium slideshows. If you had over 80 pictures it would be cumbersome because of the user interface. If anyone has some suggestions for other software I'll consider some other packages.

Changes since the initial online gallery posting. Pieces are by last name:

- Don Derry -> added picture and caption
- Art Liestman -> replaced picture with better picture
- Ron Kent -> replaced caption with better description

Thanks for setting up that link Ken. I will post a modified version of the link on the homepage. We just realized that the phrase "AAW Relief" should be used instead of "AAW Relief Fund". To be clear the phrase "AAW Relief" should be used.

Ken - I'm at work. Can you update the link and repost it here? I haven't used the tinyurl trick yet.

Jeff, I realized after setting up that tinyurl link that just using the URL for "viewing seller's other items" will get you there just as well, and the URL for that isn't too long:

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZaawauctionQQhtZ-1

So you might want to go with this instead.

For future reference, if you need to make a long URL short, just go to:

http://www.tinyurl.com

with the long URL in your clipboard, and just enter it into the box.

Why does e-Bay not know any thing about AAW Relief? I get nothing when I search.

As mentioned in the new thread, the AAW auction is temporarily closed because of a technical problem. I am going to temporarily lock this thread so that there is only one thread open on this.

Jim - it is likely that they closed the auction and blocked the searches when you were just recently looking.
