I have been using some mapping tools to display the AAW population, chapter location etc. The us census bureau has free downloads for boundaries of states, counties, metro areas and combined metro areas plus a file that links zip codes to each of those areas.

The maps below show counties where AAW members live, geographic regions where more than 10 AAW members live with the geographic regions color coded. The last map is one showing symposiums 2010-2013 with 600 mile circles to indicate the a 1 days drive. These maps color code entire provinces because I don't have a method to match Canadian member to smaller geographic regions.

See the next post about Canadian data.

What I would like to do is a similar display for our Canadian members. Canada's census website has free downloads of boundary data. However there is a $10,000 fee to license the use of the data that links postal codes to the areas. If you have experience with the Canadian GIS data please send me a pm.

Using the city in the the address field does not map to metro region well. As an example in the first map below shows 5 AAW members live in the Sarnia, Ontario metro region. Sarnia is in the middle. But only 3 of them have A Sarnia address the other two have Point Edward and Corunna addresses.

Below are two additional maps one showing Canadian metro regions and the Canadian census bureau regions. These could be color coded if I had a way of counting AAW member within the regions.

Thanks,
Alr
