Attached you will find a web page leading to what a group of us senior kids did over the weekend. The city of Aurora Co. has a kids spree every year and a bunch of us from the Front Range Woodturners spend the weekend letting kids of all ages paint spinning tops. I don't know who has the most fun us or the kids. We made the tops before we got there and we gave away about 1500 tops last weekend. A great time for all.

That looks like a great event.

I love watching kids... how they focus on the task at hand.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us... it shows off woodturners at their best... passing it on to the next generation.

Suck them into the vortex while they're young!

That's awesome - wish I would have known I would have suggested to my brother(s) to head down to the event. 3 kids between em and it looks like it was a blast for the kids (and probably quite enjoyable for the turners seeing the smiles ane excitement too 🙂).

Where was it held? (I spent nearly 20yrs in Northern CO. only moving here in '03).

That's very cool! The look on the kids' faces is priceless. I like the handrest you guys made for the lathes, too. Great idea.

the kids spree is held in the Centenial park at the corner of I-225 and Alameda in Aurora, Colo. Always on the hottest weekend of the summer. It was near 100 degrees both days this year and the normal temp is around 85 at this time of the year.

What a wonderful activity for kids to do. I know I will be telling our local groups about this, and I can imagine this will be duplicated in other areas. Thanks for sharing!

Lol Big D. I hear you on the weather and bad luck w/ temps.

Never fails - events like this always have a bit o' Murphy's luck throw in.

Looks like an overwhelming success though 🙂 I'll be sure to let them know and try to keep a listen out for next year if you're intending to hold again.

Thanks,

michael
