Hi everyone! Thought I'd share this real life Christmas story with you folks to set the Holiday mood:

Being single with no family near by, last Christmas was going to be pretty lonely. Not even a card to open. A neighbor called and told me to come over their house for Christmas dinner and I accepted. Well, there was a bunch of people there and the dinner was great. Afterwards, everyone started piling up presents in front of each other to open. Including ME! I had no idea. They even had my name on the tags (a set up!). I was flabbergasted and a little embarrassed as I had only one gift I made for the hosts ahead of time. I'm no sissy, but it almost brought me to tears. Turned out to be one of the best holidays I ever had. We all had a ball. That's when I decided that this Christmas (I was invited again),I was going to make sure I returned the favor. I can't wait to give all those people who were so nice to me a little something (all lathe items) in return this year. Some special people who gave me a Christmas I'll never forget! That's what it's all about.
Merry Christmas EVERYONE!!! Don

Don,

Its kinda what it all about, isn't it? A season of sharing, looking out for those less fortunate, doing what we can.

One thing is for sure your really going to make it a Christmas to remember for a lot of folks this year.

All the best from down under

Great story, Don......

As hughie mentioned......This IS what it's all about!

Sort of renews your belief in the goodness within the hearts of humanity.....doesn't it? :cool2:

When I was in service, there were always single guys who couldn't go home for Christmas, including me first my year in Alaska. One of the things I tried to do when they gave me a desk to fly was to convince those with collocated families to give holiday leave to those whose families were elsewhere. Even that didn't cover all, so we seemed always to have a couple over for a minimum of the feast, but often for mass and presents on Christmas eve. SWMBO always made sure we had presents for them, even going so far as to make shirts. A few hours with kids, dogs and a family meant a lot to a barracks rat.

Believe it or not, there are usually a few at the university in the same position. We met some wonderful kids over turkey and trimmings through the years. It's a great thing to do.

thanks for posting Don. I love this time of year. Hate going to the mall but love this time of year. I've been working on a Shaker candle stand for my sister. There's nothing more fun than making a gift for someone.

You bet, Odie, Michael,John and Hughie! It always means more when it's from the heart. Giving your time, food, or something you made can really make a difference in someones Christmas. Even your own!
Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for posting, Don

So, Am I The Sissy???

Your story brought me to tears!
It's always wonderful to hear this kind of story...
You now have a family of sorts, who (it sounds like ) took you in against your will... OK, at least without your awareness.
You must have made a pretty nice impression on your neighbors, to have been "set up" like that.
Merry Christmas (to all), and thanks for the great story.

Thanks for the story Don. Reminds me of several Christmas's in the service.

Happy Holidays to all.

Well, it turned out to be another wonderful Christmas and everyone LOVED their lathe turned gifts. Great time with some great people.

Glad to hear it went well and we had no doubt they would love your turned gifts.

Merry Christmas Don and thanks again for sharing this
