If your going to Portland be sure to see Ryozo Kawakita and Yasuhiro Satake.
The Japanese have remarkable skill, incredible traditions and interesting tools.
My friend Tom Boley who lived 9 years in Japan says it best
"I also cannot expound enough on how incredible it is to have Kawakita-san come to the symposium. We just don't have the equivalent in the US of a living national treasure, but the Japanese do. They have recognized extraordinary expertise in ceramics, textiles, lacquerware, metalwork, wood and bamboo crafts, and dolls, with a miscellaneous category thrown in. "
Something like a Poet Laurette of woodturning
Happy turning
Have a safe trip,
