I just finished 3 more pieces, bigleaf maple burl vessel, Norfolk pine and walnut burl. the finish on all of them is laquer after they were soaked in my watco barrel. the Nip bowl soaked a lot longer though, about 200 hours total in 18 sessions. the other bowls just for 24 hours.

All critique and comments are welcome

Nice!

Hi Sascha,

They all came out very nice. I have never tried the soaking method and I was just wondering a few things, on the NIP one, when you removed the bowl from soaking each time, do you wipe it until it is dry each time? And on all of them after you are finally finished with the soaks, same question and also how long do you wait for them to dry before you spray the laquer? thanks

nip bowls get wet sanded each time i pull them out, then wipe dry really good, the poly will blotch a bit.
and i wait at least 2 weeks before laquer

Sascha, Great wood and great results. Where in the world do you find such beautiful blanks to turn???? Phil

EBAY,hehehe. They got good stuff there, just have to look. los angeles is aweful for wood, pine and palm trees, great 🙁

so far i have had a lot of luck on EBAY

Sascha, your turning look very good, seems like your soaking method works quite well, the N.P. gives a good finish.
