This latest box of mine is one I made at a recent demonstration for the West Suffolk Woodturning Club. It is made from Boxwood and is 65mm tall and 48mm in diameter. The basket weave pattern is 3mm wide and made using an 18 bump rosette. The top is decorated with an Arch 7 rosette and has a red...
I made this box for the monthly challenge on WoodTurningZoom, the theme was “something for someone else so an item made to make someone smile it must be made for someone and given to them as a gift”. I made this box for Ruth Bray, the wife of a friend, I gave a similar box to Steve Kearvell for...
I have just modified my portable demonstration Rose Engine lathe by installing a new cross-slide on it. I got the cross-slide from Arthur Kingdon, the President of the Society of Ornamental Turners as he no longer needed it. It needed a new lead screw which I got from Arc Euro Trade at a very...
This Mopane ornamental box was inspired by a recent post by @qbranchwoodworks It measures 75mm in diameter and stands just over 55mm tall. The basket weave pattern was cut using a 4mm cutter. I used two different rosettes to decorate the lid and fitted the centre with one of my usual white CZ...
Every month my online woodturning club (https://woodturningzoom.com) has a challenge that members show on Zoom on a Wednesday evening. This months challenge was 'Big & Small' so to make anything you like and a smaller identical version of it. I decided to compete in the challenge with the large...
This box is made from a piece of Satinwood given to me recently by a friend to see if it was suitable for ornamental turning. I am pleased with the way that it came out with no tear out using both a drilling frame and a cutting frame on my Rose Engine lathe. It is 65mm tall and 47mm in diameter...
This small box 60mm tall 40mm in diameter was decorated on my Rose Engine lathe. The wood is unknown by me but was quite dense so it took the pattern well. The top has a white CZ inserted in the centre of the pattern. The inside of the lid is also decorated and has a blue CZ stone in the centre...
I turned this bowl using the long-tenon method, kicking it off-axis to turn the inside portion of the bowl. I then turned two additional facets on the outside to catch the light at different angles. The rose engine accents were turned on my MDF Rose Engine 2.0 while the bowl was off-axis. The...

I made this bowl on my MDF Rose Engine out of sapele. It is about 4" across, and was an experiment to see how much I could alter the shape of the bowl simply by cutting the rim.
