The body was carved textured and then finished with rub ons ,airbrushed and wire brushed to give the effect of leather .To the touch it feels like leather as well
This piece just received 2nd prize in The Taranakai wood skills competition in artistic wood turning

In My Manta - Ray series this piece was a labour of love as the hours seemed to dwindle away
I lost count of the hours sanding the water ripples
The water has had a coat of non grain raising stain sanded back then 26 coats of lacquer to give the pond depth
Comments welcome...
150mm square ,textured ,gold leaf .This was all turned no steaming or bending of the tail .Quite a challenge to turn up under the tail then turn out the bowl without wiping off the tail
Comments welcome
