hollow form box

  1. Osage Hollow Form Box

    Osage Hollow Form Box

About 3.5 x 6 inches, the lid is purpleheart. I’ve always liked the colour combination of yellow and purple, not sure why. Wipe-on poly and Beall buffed.
  2. East Indian Rosewood Hollow Form Box

East Indian Rosewood Hollow Form Box

The lid on this box is also East Indian Rosewood and the finial is Hornbeam. About 3 x 6 inches. Finished with walnut oil and Beall buffed. Need to strive for finer, thinner finials. This one is a bit to chunky.
  3. Padauk Hollow Form Box

    Padauk Hollow Form Box

This piece of padauk was a bit mottled and has some unique colour patterns. The lid is cocobolo. About 3.5 x 6 inches, walnut oil and Beall buffed.
  4. Flamed Box Elder Hollow Form Box

Flamed Box Elder Hollow Form Box

Made from a log I bought 2 years ago. About 3 x 7 inches. The lid actually weighs more than the hollow form. Four coats of wipe-on poly and Beall buffed.
  5. Horse Chestnut Hollow Form Box

    Horse Chestnut Hollow Form Box

About 3.5 x 6 inches, this hollow form box has a cocobolo lid. Four coats of wipe-on poly for the box and walnut oil on the lid, Beall buffed.
  6. Tree of Heaven Hollow Form Box

Tree of Heaven Hollow Form Box

About 3 inches in diameter and 6 inches high. The lid is Rengas. Two different finishes - wipe-on poly for the box and walnut oil for the lid. There’s too much oil in the Rengas for the poly to cure.
  7. Apple Hollow Form Box

    Apple Hollow Form Box

I have to admit that I don’t like the lid on this hollow form box. I had a tagua nut that was lying around for years and I finally used it. But I wanted to use most of it, was reluctant to turn it down any smaller! So I think it’s too top heavy. The nut turns like plastic and I lightly sanded it...
  8. Osage Orange Hollow Form Box

    Osage Orange Hollow Form Box

This Osage had been drying for years but wasn’t too difficult to hollow. The lid is flamed box elder. About 3 x 5 inches. Wipe-on poly and Beall buffed.
  9. Osage Orange Hollow Form Box

    Osage Orange Hollow Form Box

The Osage here is a good example of the slow growing trees in Ontario. About 3 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches high. The lid is wenge which contrasts well with the yellow Osage. Finish is wipe-on poly and Beall buffed.
