    Ambrosia maple (silver maple that had been infected with ambrosia beetles) is a nice carving wood. I turned the blank from green wood last year and started the carving over winter break.     Madrone burl with black lacquered maple foot. The lid is slumped glass with a brass finial. Turned from a green blank, this piece took many hours of thinking and planning before it ever saw the lathe. About 18 x 8.
