This chunk of firewood is ready to be split into pieces and carved into giraffes or llamas depending on the neck size. The ring is 5 inches in diameter and 3-1/2 inches tall. I was inspired by some photographs in a German book of wooden toys.

This is the second required photo for the contest. This shot shows one leaf after extensive hand sanding (with the torn up hands to prove it) and about 4 coats of pre-cat lacquer.

This is my first contest entry. This is the required setup photo 1 showing the ring still on my lathe in the upper left, the cut ring at the bandsaw in the upper right and the 8 pieces in the lower right.
Spalted Maple. Ring is approx 4" wide and 9.5" diameter.
Base, lid and finial -Cherry. Collar - Royal Palm. Box - Jatoba, turned on 3 axes. Finial elements painted and color matched glass beads inset on four sides. Pearl on top. 7 inches tall. 2 inches max diameter.
