Shakers made from maple. Holes for salt and pepper in the letters and hole for filling in the bottom sealed with a cork. Yolks are painted with thinned acrylic paint. Made for our local club gift exchange.
Bradford Pear, Black Cherry, leather dye, acrylic paints, magnets; 4.5"l x 3"w x 5"h. I turned, pyro textured, carved, charred, and painted the egg, and turned, carved, and charred the base. This is for a friend--I'm trading with him for a bunch of coffee beans. Re. the name, Klauth is a dragon...
This is representative of the birth of my first born son Elm. He turned 3 on Tuesday (May 28), and gosh it seems like he was simultaneously born yesterday and forever ago. Looking back, my wife and I had an idea of what it meant to be parents, but we didn't really know. We didn't know how much...
Sassafras, Suriname Ironwood, and Black Cherry. A variation of Al Hockenbery's ball in a ball, the small egg moves around freely, but can't be removed. Large egg finished with satin rattle lacquer, and small egg and pedestal finished with hemp oil. 8.25" tall and 3.25" diameter.
This is another egg-in-an-egg piece, inspired by Al Hockenbery's ball-in-a-ball work. I posted this to another forum, but there's a lot of non-overlap with members. Forgive me if you've seen it previously. The small Suriname Ironwood egg moveable yet permanently fitted within the cavity of the...
I like eggs! Scrambled, fried, spiraled, carved, textured, colored. I think eggs offer one of the most pleasing forms as a canvas for wannabe artists such as myself. I always try to turn the "perfect" egg, and if it doesn't look like it turned out that way I remind myself... If you ask a...
Sugarberry egg on African Blackwood stand. Egg is embellished with acrylic paints, India ink, pyrography texture, and finished with rattle lacquer. Stand is finished with hemp oil. 7”h x 4”d. This is a special time capsule piece—story in comments.
This is another dragon egg that is pretty close to hatching. Maybe only a couple hundred years left? The egg is Maple, and I turned, carved, charred, pyro textured, and dry brushed it with acrylics. The base is White Oak, and I carved, charred, and pyro textured it prior to sanding the bottom...
Silver Maple egg and Black Cherry base. The hot topic seems to be embellishment; funny timing, as this piece has a bunch of it! I used a round burr and carved away and stippled sections of the egg. Then I burned a fragment pattern on the surface, and lightly charred the egg with a torch...
This is for a challenge at our local turning club (wntx.org). But instead of one egg, I thought it would be cool to nest two eggs like a prize egg. All are from pear carved and textured. Color is with acrylic paint fanned brushed over black ink and finished with clear matt enamel.
Hollow Easter Egg turned out of maple with inlays of padauk, cherry, and walnut. Finshed withTurner's polish.
Size is 2" X 3"
Background is a (subdued) picture of real eggs done by my mom many years ago. (used 2 sheets of wax paper to reduce background)
This pierced Egg ornament has walunt finials and measures 6" h x 1 3/4" w.
Doing the egg piercing was the real challenge after trying to straighten up the blow holes in the ends from removing the egg inside. I have also tried dying some of these. You must not have used any...
Here is a box 2" in diameter and 2 3/4" tall turned from sheoak a friend from New Zealand sent. The box has tiny flat on the bottom so it can stand.
This piece was rough turned from wet Water Hickory (Red Pecan), harvested in Southeast Texas in 2004. The turning sat drying for 4 years, waiting to become something more than a mere shallow bowl. In April of this year, I retrieved it for final turning and carving and completion of the egg...

This is what you get when you have flu, you get bored and you watch Matrix trilogy once again. Also I were thinking that soon we have to have eggs for our display in local library ready and I haven't even started.
"There are fields, endless fields, where chicken beings are no longer...
Description: Eggs are actual egg size. (buff orpington egg) Top of stand is also half a hollow egg. Both eggs have removable top and are filled with bunnies. ?You sure didn't expect to find chicks in an Easter egg??? The small bunnies are missfits and scraps from inlaying the bunnies in the...
