I have used the Escoulen chuck number 1 to turn this sycamore eccentric box, 6" 172 tall, diameter 6".
The turning of the box and of the lid is first done following the traditional settings, then each is off centered to turn the foot on the box and the top of the lid threw which goes...
The top is turned eccentricly. The base was done on my rose engine. It appears to be a spiral. The effect is from seperate grooves cut as the work recriprocated on the spindle (in coordiation with the turning motion). As far as I know, this effect is only possible with a springloaded spindle.
Eccentric bowl, hackberry with aluminum legs. 4"h x 4.75"w The legs were turned/tapered on the lathe then bent. Both materials were sanded to 600 grit. Wood was finished with several tung oil coats. Legs were coated with carnauba wax then buffed. Comments are always welcome.
6 1/2" high, 2 1/2" dia. base.
Turned on an eccentric chuck adapter of my design and construction, which bolts to a 4-jaw scroll chuck.
The base is filled with lead shot.
