A couple of Arbutus Hats finished up this week. First time using wipe on poly I applied 4 coats but cant say I'm happy with the result. I normally use lacquer spray but wanted something a little more water resistant as these will be worn. Both are Size 7.75 and are 9 ounces
This Range Rider hat is turned from spalted Maple. I was taught how to turn hats from master turner and fellow OVWG member/friend Dave Kratzer. This one is a mini hat, 7.25 inches diameter and 3.25 inches tall. Sanded, bent in a bending jig and finished with gloss lacquer. They are fun to make!!
My daughter wants me to make a bowl for her. SWMBO and daughter were shopping last week. The Mrs. stopped in Woodcraft to get a moisture meter that was on sale. She saw a turned cowboy hat. Asked if I could make one. If things keep piling up, I'll be 145 before I die!
