Wonder

If you want to experience wonder, look down into the inside of this bowl. Let your eyes follow the holographic ripple while enjoying the pattern of the spalting. For me its a mystical experience, like a glimpse of the magic of the natural world made solid
My part in this was simple. I made a choice about how I would orient the wood on the lathe before I turned it and I picked a very simple clean shape that would not detract from the woods natural beauty. I also made sure that it was a joy to hold and touch, everything else is natures doing.
From wonder into wonder existence opens. Lao Tzu says. I think this bowl is a meditation point through which that transcendent thought can be absorbed.
I hope that many people will handle this bowl. It is 8"x4" and finished with a combination of polyurethane, turpentine and tung oil.
The photo doesn't do the reality justice the ripples are so deep that people are shocked to find the bottom smooth.
