Waterbird (front)

Cherry plate, with pyrography, carving and paint.
Like the way you used the offcenter grain.
Grain that off center often disturbs my eye.
Transforming a poor visual feature into an elegant unifying background works great.
And the fallen feather making ripples!!

Thank you. I haven't been turning for that long, so my proclivity to make errors, like off center grain, are offset by my love of working with what the piece offers. Features that most would consider problems are great spring boards for me, creatively. That's probably because when I started collaborating with other turners, I initially got offered pieces that were a bit wonky to prove my skills on. Sometimes though, there's great beauty in the flaws. I also wanted to prove that painting on dark or colored wood could bring its own underpinning luster to a piece, without coating it with color (like milk paint). Thanks so much for the feedback.
