Walnut HF with copper leaf and chemical patina

I absolutely love this one. Where can I get information about creating these patinas on turned wood pieces? I've got all the chemicals, because I created copper bobeshes for some multi-centered candlesticks I turned some years ago. I assume the process is similar, but how do you keep the chemicals off the wood? Masking tape? Plastic?

Arthur, I got my info from David Mark's DVD. I got the DVD at
artchemicals. com (be warned, the dvd was not cheap, I had some sticker shock) It covers the gilding and patina process.

The Chemicals I used on the copper were Barium Sulfide and Sodium Sulfide.

Your piece is beautiful in both form and the massive use of the copper. Nice combination!

I took David's class at Marc Adams last year. We all ended up with amazing pieces. I also bought that kit with the DVD and patination chemicals too. Very cool stuff.

I'm sure you guys remember his piece on the back cover of our journal. He had it with him at our class.

Oh, and the chemicals did not bother the tape that we used to mask off the wood and other parts of the turning. It only reacts with the metal leaf.
