Traveling Bowl - 2010

This is a collaboration of several turners in the OVWG. This is the second year that a bowl was turned and then "Traveled" to different turners shops for enhancement and finishing. On Jan. 15th 2011 the OVWG has a banquet, and this bowl will be auctioned off as a fund raiser for the club.

As luck would have it, the knot hole was not present in the roughout, but when the wall was thinned during the second turning, it opened up and the knot fell out. Actually turned out to be good thing, see photos in comment section.

Cherry, 12-5/8" dia x 4-3/4 tall. The lower portion of the outside of the bowl is textured and friction pyro'ed. The inside has hand painted butterflys and a wood borer. The rim has a twisted copper wire inset into a groove, and there are plugs of purpleheart dotting the rim also.

The multitude of signatures have not been put on the bottom yet.

Lacquer, tenderly sprayed so as to not make the ink of the insects run. Ordinarily I would flatten the lacquer with steel wool, but was afraid that the details in the butterflys would get damaged.

The photos do not do this bowl justice.

Comments welcome.
