Thomas Boyd Live Oak Desk Set

The Thomas Boyd Live Oak was one of the largest Live Oaks in Louisiana until Hurricane Gustav uprooted it in 2008. It stood proudly on the Louisiana State Capitol grounds. This desk set was hand-crafted from a cross section of the tree. It measures about 10" long and 6" at its widest point. The clock holder and pen were turned and the base was hand sanded and finished with multiple coats of BLO. A lot of history in this piece, enabling the tree to live on in another form. Comments and critiques are always welcomed.

Thanks guys. This tree had a great deal of significance to Louisiana. And it was often used as the focal point for MANY wedding photos. Just imagine, this tree was planted in the 1750's!
The 2 studs are grooved for business cards. You are correct!
