Hi everyone
This piece of sycamore is the latest in the journey of exploration that is looking into using footless forms and how they react to piercing. These pieces automatically find their own balance point which after working on is very hard to maintain! In the event the horizon is only level due to the stone plinth as on its own the form leans slightly to the left (better luck/ marking out next time!) I wondered about creating a flat to sit the piece on thus removing the possibility of it not sitting straight but I kind of like the chance element its the wood taking a little control! It is named after a celtic sun god Bel the island is Jura the stone plinth is from a point on the Scottish mainland that overlooks the actual view.
A combination of Pyrography gold paint and oil finish the piece is approx 120mm x 100mm
