This is a square edged turning. The wood is ash, dyed with Blood Red, Behlen Solar Lux Stain, sprayed with Deft Lacquer, and finished of with Liming Wax. Techniques learned at a Betty Scarpino demonstration.
Nice turning. Thing that troubles me about the non-glass lights is that metal conducts heat so much better than glass that the finish is easily compromised. I tend to shine the wood and call it fair or leave it rough textured. Hollow a "snifter" pattern for a votive from a log section complete with radial checks, and the patterns of light can be fascinating. I'll try and pop a picture of an ash turning of mine that was going to be something like this until I discovered a dish. I've posted one of him in oil only, it looks like, but I'll try to get a triple in his shiny state.
I have not tried burning it yet. Another memeber of our club has made a lot of tea light holders and claims there hasn't been any problems with them. I'll have to see how warm the cup gets.
