Sycamore Vase

Not much turning going on in my shop lately. I have a very detailed piece that I have been working on that has been consuming all my spare time and I will post it soon But in between that complex piece I decided to try turning a traditional type vase (amongst a few other pieces). This vase was turned to finial shape over several sessions. I wanted it to be somewhat functional for a dried flower arrangement or something so instead of going real thin, this one is just shy of 1/4" thick and I stopped the hollowing 3" from the bottom for ballast. Got to finally test out the real capibilities of my Carter Hollow Roller and it worked pretty good. This is the tallest single piece form I have done to date.

10 3/4" tall x 5 3/5" wide. Finished with thinned shellac for sanding sealer, three coats of tung oil finish, beal buffed and Ren wax.
