Sunflower vase

This piece is the first collaboration between my wife and I. I turned and hollowed, then she helped with the drawing and placement of the flowers. I did the carving and then she did the painting with India Ink. It's 6 inches wide by 12 inches tall with a 1/8 inch wall thickness. Made from birch.
I usually HATE painted stuff (I like to let the wood speak for itself) - even when it is done as well as this is -
But I absolutely LOVE this. Everything about it, the design, the even wall thickness, the elegant detail and, of course, I;m sure you used a really plain piece of wood that needed your golden touch.

Yes George, I used a very plain piece of birch. :) The funny part of this is that the reason for doing this piece was to get my wife back to painting. She lacks confidence and this was my way of enticing her to use her talents. I think she has outdone herself and all of the comments have been a real boost to her confidence. Thanks everyone.

@Richard Avram
Well, this should be a real confidence builder for her. The painting is as elegant as the form and the piercing.

Beautiful work! Got to see it in-person in the library display-- Very impressive, way to go!
