I have a soft spot in my heart for rocks and wood. I recently watched my friend Guilio Marcolongo turn a simple but sensuous box using forms that seemed like river worn stones. An idea is born..............
I chose woods that were hard and dense, that would take a fine polish without any finish. All but the top most "stone" have a recess to gently hold the next piece in the stack and a small keeper cavity for hiding treasures making this a multi-lidded multi box. The woods include Brazilian Cherry, Verawood, Goncalo Alves, Walnut, Purple Heart and Zircote. No mechanical connection involved so the "stones" can be fondled and stacked in several configurations. As a rule I take all posting photos of our artwork in the controlled environment of a photo booth but this seemed to also need a shot out by the quiet pond........
