Spent Seed

Spent Seed,
Made from a Grass Tree root (Black Boy) this piece measures 125mm 5 inches dia
I idea was to turn a hollow form then carve through the walls so as the seed looked like it had shed its seeds. One again I have been having fun with my new Airbrush .
The colours came out like some tropical fruit .First a background of black was applied then various layers of colour with the final being a translucent pearl .Masking up the pod nearly took as long as it did to airbrush .I had to cut dozens of small curved masking tape .The stem is turned and glued in .I suppose if I had had left it loose it may be a box .
The body has 20 coats of lacquer which I sanded back each time to fill the grain .Then a further 3 to finish.

This was a piece that I carried around for an hour or two after finishing because it just felt good to do so ,
