My friend Mark Cothren gave me some spalted sweet gum whe he came for a visit. This is the first turned for that gift. Measures 5-1/2" diameter x 6-1/2" tall. Finished with brush on lacqure and buffed.
Keith that is a beautiful piece. Nice form and finish. To think I have Sweet Gum all around me and I never turned any. Excuse me while I head out with my chainsaw.
Beautiful piece of wood. Keith, do you now if the spalting was from "nature" or was "artificially produced" if you know what I mean. I've never seen spalting in sweetgum, but this sure is beautiful.
Hal, this was cut and one end waxed while he other end was set on the ground and left out. For how long I don't know. The first 6" of the end that was on the ground was history.
