My first photo upload! I went hiking on the beaches of my island yesterday for my 18th birthday, looking for wood, and after months of searching remote beaches, I found a dead crabapple limb that was not too rotten. A friend in Sitka had encouraged me to look for dead-standing crabapples as they have poor rot resistance and can have wonderful natural spalting. I found one and turned it in later that night. This is a box, or pot, with a lid, end grain, a foot, and a knob. Apple is one of the only native wood that can be turned cleanly with scrapers.
